1 John 2:24-27 See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is what he promised us – even eternal life. 26 I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. 27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit – just as it has taught you, remain in him.
JOHN has warned of false teachers and commanded the church to know and stay in the truth. He has also taught of your great privilege to have God’s hand anoint you to faith. Now he brings the two together. As God has anointed you to his kingdom, remain faithful to his truth you have heard from the beginning of your faith. This should be easy for all of us to understand. For example, we see this in our employment. Your employer has chosen you to work for her and with others. She teaches you the right way to work. You know and remain in this right way to do good work in gratitude for the way the work cares for your life. If you don’t work in the true way, you don’t work there. The same is true for athletic teams and the church on earth. It is the same for the eternal kingdom of God. A true disciple recognizes, “I am saved by grace alone. I have the privilege of knowing and living God’s truth.” God’s personal touch on your life is the power of such teaching as Ephesians 2:8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. God has marked you to his own! And your response is to serve God in love and gratitude. You rejoice in his salvation. You want to use your gifts, so others will know. You remain diligent to know – to determine – Jesus’ truth impacts your life. You remain purposeful to praise make God known. “Remain” is a strong word for Jesus. He used it repeatedly to strengthen his disciples’ resolve to live out his commands. John 15:4 “Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.” Jesus is your center. He is your Lord, Savior, Redeemer and Friend. Jesus is your Judge and the Son of Man. He is the King of Heaven and earth. His dominion is everlasting. Thank God you are anointed to remain in him forevermore. Life Thought: Why would you want to be with anyone else? Comments are closed.
