It’s True
Mark 14:16-18 The disciples left, went into the city and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover. 17 When evening came, Jesus arrived with the Twelve. 18 While they were reclining at the table eating, he said, “I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me – one who is eating with me.” THE disciples found things just as Jesus had told them. Jesus instructed them. They listened. They completed the task. True instructions and true obedience leads to true results. When Jesus says, “I tell you the truth.” our only response is to fully listen, learn and do what he says. Thus, when Jesus announced at his last Passover supper, “I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me – one who is eating with me.” spiritual shock waves shook the disciples’ hearts. Would they listen? How would they respond? Surely Not I Mark 14:19-21 They were saddened, and one by one they said to him, “Surely not I?” 20 “It is one of the Twelve,” he replied, “one who dips bread into the bowl with me. 21 The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.” OH, the hurt! When you read Jesus’ words here, you must understand how deeply Jesus felt the wound of betrayal in his heart. When he spoke “it is one of the Twelve”, he was telling his closest students, the ones he had chosen, that one of them would betray him. How painful was his soul to announce this truth and to know the man, Judas, would be condemned to Hell. How deep was the grief in Jesus’ heart as he looked into the face of his beloved disciple and said, “Woe to that man.” Think about Judas’ fate. And then consider the Tempter’s assault on your faith, “It’s okay to betray Jesus.” Betrayal without repentance is eternally deadly. Turn from Satan’s deceit. Be faithful to listen, live and learn the truth of Jesus’ saving grace, “The Bible says in Romans 10:9 That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” If their destiny is Hell, indeed, it would have been better for you not to have been born. Out of the deep emotions of the Passover meal, Jesus mourned his friend’s future. How would he view your future? Think About your answer. Remember Jesus has told you the truth to keep you from woe.
