The Kingdom of Our Lord and of His Christ
Looking Toward the End and the Beginning
Colossians 3:3-5 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. 5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
WHAT does it mean to be “hidden with Christ”? Consider what do with a valuable object. You usually hide it don’t you? You want it to be secured and safe, so you put it where it is protected. In a like manner, you are hidden with Christ in God because the Father sees you as his valuable possession, his child. Your heavenly Father has put you in a safe place. The devil wants to steal you away, but you are secure with his Son. You are away from the world’s evils that Paul so clearly listed here. Even more, you are safe from God’s eternal condemnation. Joyfully, you are secure in God’s eternal salvation because you are hidden, protected with Jesus. In another illustration, see Jesus as your Watchman. He warns with his teachings and commands. He, protects with his promises. He secures you with his death, resurrection and ascension. Jesus is your Savior, who “hides” you from sin with his blood. Jesus is your Brother, who secures you as a child of God. Jesus is your Friend, who welcomes you to a place prepared in heaven for you. Jesus is your King, who safeguards your life now and forever with his power from heaven’s throne. Jesus is your Storm Calmer, who secures you from the waves of trouble that threaten to wash over your heart. Jesus is your Alpha and Omega, who has bound you to him from eternity past into eternity future. Jesus is your Son of Man, who will come again to secure you from the world into heaven’s glory. As you are hidden with Jesus in God, you are bound to the Bible, to worship God and to love one another. You are bound to tell the world of his great love. Hidden with Christ in God is a good, safe place to be. Life Thought: You can be sure you are secure in Jesus. Comments are closed.
