The Kingdom of Our Lord and of His Christ
Looking Toward the End and the Beginning
Revelation 19:11-16 I saw Heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14 The armies of Heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
HE comes! Jesus told his disciples in Matthew 24:30 “At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory.” This is Jesus’ glorious return to earth. He is on a hose of power and rule. His name is Faithful and True and a name written on him that no one knows but he knows. His magnificent glory is beyond our full comprehension. Jesus is just. His eyes demonstrate God’s power and piercing knowledge. His many crowns reflect his sovereign power over all. The Lamb of God wears a robe dipped in blood, likely reflecting his own sacrifice for his church. In perfection he leads Heaven’s armies; the church faithfully follows him. Fulfilled is the ancient prophecy of Genesis 49:10 The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs, and the obedience of the nations is his. Indeed, the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty finally destroys sin. Yes, he is the KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. Are you prepared for his coming? Prayer: We rejoice in the expectation of your coming, Lord Jesus. Come quickly, that your will is done on earth as in heaven. Amen. Comments are closed.
